geohash.org — global positioning using short hash (the form at the page can understand bare zip-code too, so zip is an even shorter id, hehe). near places will start with the same substring (except zero meridian and equator). useful tips. example: geohash.org/9w1p39kwe — nine chars are quite enough, but seen it as long as 13 for my house which is crazy (6 7 8 9 10 chars --> 1200 215 38 7 1 meter)

xxxxxxxxx короче, чем sddd.xxxxxx, плюс удобнее хранить в БД, находить соседние пункты и проч. Можно обсудить здесь.
